Promote the benevolence of academic research and establish the style of the generation of scholars. Today I will introduce to you the story of Mr. Zheng Qia, a well-known local wise man in Haojiang, who devoted his life to protecting and inheriting the Chaoyue culture.

▲Mr. Zheng Qia
Autumn window stroking the Yaoqiu facing the moon, and playing the clear sound. The song “Remembering the Old Friend” is lightly wiped out. Myanmar’s ancestral teachings, every time I whispered Komiks, tears were touched. I vaguely peek at the shadows, and I can’t find the sky when I see it. In the autumn night, I am playing the piano and remembering my grandfather, Qia Gong’s voice and appearance, and I feel like I am still there. I don’t feel tears wet my clothes. The poem is here – “Talking Hearts” to express my grief…
My grandfather Zheng Qia, originally from Mukeng Palace in Miancheng, Chaoyang, was a wise man and famous teacher in the Chaoshan music industry. Good at painting in temples, and is proficient in metaphysics. What I learned throughout my life is profound and profound, and I especially value Confucianism and joy in educating people. Babaylan, who is committed to traditional culture and traditional music, is the founder of the dissemination and development of Chaoyang Ditu Music in Haojiang. My grandfather lost his father at a young age and was able to sell fried dough sticks at Chaoyang Tower at the age of eight. However, he is eager to study and lingers in the academies and bookshops all day long. I got the mercy of the old man in the private school and allowed him to study for free. He is also smart and always stays in temples and music halls, and is fascinated by calligraphy, painting and music art. At the age of twelve, he studied under Mr. Chen Wulu, a famous chauvinist of the “Yangchun Garden” Leshe in Chaoyang. He was highly valued and accepted as a disciple of the family, teaching Chaoyang flute sets ancient music and string poetry music. After obtaining his true teachings, he is especially good at drums and flutes. During the Anti-Japanese War, Chaoyang’s “Yangchun Garden” Leshe stopped all drills, and his grandfather moved to Dahao. Dahao was always the capital of Chaoyang County recruitment. Guangxu (Chaoyang County Chronicles) recorded: “There are many people in the area, including reciting strings and poetry and books.” After settling down, he met local celebrities such as Wu Xuehong, Zheng Jieru, Zheng Fuxuan, Lin Zhonghong, Li Yongzhi, and fellow music clubs such as Zheng Senyao and Yao Biaoqing. He deeply felt the accumulation of humanities and history of HaoIt is thick, but there are few people who are involved in Chaoyang Di Fu’s ancient music here, and thus the idea of spreading and carrying forward it out. Therefore, we entertain ourselves first and then attract enthusiasts to observe and learn. By the 1950s, there were more than 40 enthusiasts such as Wu Guozhe, Cai Zhaowu, Li Qinru, Wu Tongguang, and Yang Dan, who practiced Chaoyang flute set music and Chaozhou silk string music in batches. In the 1960s, there were hundreds of scholars. There were Zheng Yujie, Huang Tingke, Wu Muqing, Huang Tengsen, Wan Mianshui, etc., who either made a living for learning art or became a disciple for learning art due to their interests and hobbies. As the number of disciples and disciples followed one after another, I was eager to use Changxuan as a learning venue. He also considered the original intention of passing on the art and wanted to restore the “Yangchun Garden” Music Society, which was suspended due to the turbulence of the current situation. So he resolutely set up a hall in the neighboring house, used his home as a hall, and carved wooden drum pavilions, and wrote a note by himself: “Yangchun Garden Music Hall”, and wrote a couplet with the head of “Yangchun” as the music hall: “The three suns bloom and the peace will be reunited, and the first plum blossoms in spring will be the first branch.” To pray for the prosperity of the country, the “Yangchun Garden Music Hall” connects the past and the future, promotes excellent traditional culture, and inherits and develops the Chaoyang flute set of music. Once the venue is established, the rules must be determined, the teacher must be strict, and benevolent and etiquette must be learned. Whenever the students start and stop every day, students must bow their hands in front of the pavilion when entering the classroom and must not be disrespectful. At that time, he continued to accept disciples, and added music tools to teach free flute sets of gongs and drums, flute sets of gongs and drums, palace music, temple music, string poetry music, Chaozhou gongs and drums and other skills. Flute music is divided into “Flute music” and “Flute music”. The ancient music of Flute Tao originated from the court music of the Tang and Song dynasties. It was the accumulation of ancient music flowing into Chaoyang and evolved with local music. Because of the special Chaoyang accent, it forms a deep, heavy, solemn, elegant and unique rhythm. “Flute Tao Ancient Music” belongs to the Confucian Temple School, mainly composed of Sheng, Xiao, Guan and Flute. The flute is led by the music, accompanied by Sanxian, Pipa, Zheng, Yueqin, Qinqin and ancient string music, and is accompanied by the performance of small eight-tones such as Zhong, Qing, Muyu, BabaylanJie Cymbals, Zhe Drums, Sumuban, Wuyin Gong, and Xiangzhan. It retains more the simplicity, solemnity and elegance of court music. The performance style is harmonious, square and graceful. The main tracks include “Four Scenerys”, “Headlight Tower”, etc. “Flute Set Gongshu” belongs to the folk school. In addition to retaining the tone and set structure of the traditional ancient music, it is equipped with the Jiangsu opera Su Gongshu and Chaozhou Da Gongshu percussion instruments, forming the open, bright, fresh and elegant “Flute Set Su Gongshu” that are lively and light, joyful and jumping “Flute Set Xiao Gongshu” and the high-pitched, passionate, vigorous and enthusiastic “Flute Set Da Gongshu”. Its category is mainly distinguished from the supporting use of light and heavy musical instruments. At the same time, the second-class flute music combines the unique charm of Chaoyang dialect with low pronunciation and powerful Dantian.
▲The traditional music score “Kung Ruo” hand-copied and compiled by Mr. Zheng Qia
“BabaylanThe ancient music of flutes is Confucian music!” Grandfather often said. The performance should be elegant and humble, and dignified. The drums should be “not looking up at the face, and the hammer is not as good as the eyebrows”. The flute set of ancient musical instruments, Babaylan, is the unique blowing technique of “dragon head and phoenix tail finger” and is the only way to play fingering. From the podium, style and even the supporting program, it is necessary to use the hard and soft set of string orchestration according to the traditional repertoire to inherit the ancient music of the flute set and the thousand-year-old charm and elegant style. The second string music is the Chaozhou string musical instrument, which is the Chaozhou music leader instrument. It is a Chaoshan ancient instrument, also known as the “head and hand string musical instrument,” and it should be remembered that the handle is the most important thing to pay attention to “steady and arch, and demeanor is the key.” The performance should be solid and the bow is solid and the fingers are strong and soft, strong but not noise, and weak but not weak. In the use of sentence patterns, we must make both gorgeous sentences, but also moderately and formal, fully reflecting the rigid, flexible, steady and elegant playing style and performance characteristics.
At that time, no matter how severe cold and heat, no matter how sunny or rainy, the old tiger house built by my grandfather, from morning to evening, sang and played gongs and drums. Or sit around three or five, clap your palms and play the string poem set with the traditional music score “Kong Chi Note”, or play the flute in pairs, practice the big gongs, drums, small gongs and drums in the afternoon, and even the string ensemble in the evening, without interruption. At six o’clock in the morning, the disciples living in the music hall must get up on time. After washing, you either eat soy milk, fried dough sticks, or drink the five-nut noodle soup made by my grandfather, and then stand in pairs in pairs of Cinema and practice playing the flute in turn. It is called “‘Yao’ string full flute”! Before practicing flute, you must not be empty-handed, and the alchemy energy is insufficient and the air is not smooth. My grandfather sat upright on the side of the big eight immortal table in the middle of the hall, slapped with a drum board, half-closed his eyes, and carefully observed whether the luck and exhalation were smooth and correct when listening to the flute. Following the traditional fingering method, rigorously and standardize the playing techniques with the starting sentence “picking, patting, covering, and wiping” as the rhyme, and the sentences are clear and complete. The performance exercises of each piece of music must be sung with the traditional music score “Kongzi Score” until it is familiar and smooth before it can be practiced in solo and ensemble.

My grandfather taught the students, and taught them without any distinction. He taught them according to his aptitude and had solemn rules. After Wu Shunyi, a disciple of the disciple, learned the flute playing technique, he continued to practice the yangqin. His grandfather Juele Hall originally equipped with the butterfly piano was no longer suitable for his synchronous practice, so he asked a friend to buy a three-stair yangqin from Beijing to continue his disciples’ ability to practice the utensils. Later, Wu Shunyi and his eight-year-old younger brother Wu Shunxi learned his skills. His grandfather first tried to use various plucking instruments and gongs and percussion instruments to see his character. After careful examination of the interview, I realized that his nature is smart, has a superb musical feeling, and is quick to do it. This is a material that can be made of Chaomu Drums. Therefore, he strictly defined the framework: learning drum art requires the flute enlightenment of the main musical instrument of Komiks, and then proficient in other playing and plucking instruments. This is to lay the foundation of its music and help it understand its musical connotation. Through learning different instruments, master the musical expression forms and characteristics of each instrument, understand the complementary contrast of each instrument’s expression forms, and give full play to the commanding role of drums during the performance. After learning the art for several years, he received careful guidance from his grandfather. The brothers Wu Shunyi and Wu Shunxi, who are quite talented in music, have already obtained their true teachings and superb skills. I remember an older brother who walked to the music hall in the evening about a hundred meters away. He heard the loud, exciting, melodious, but simple and quiet sound of flutes from afar, which was very pleasant! However, I was very surprised that the solo of the flute actually Cinema has such a large tone? After careful analysis, it was not like playing the double flute. In a while, he was puzzled, and walked slowly to the entrance of the music hall, and stopped in shock: Wu Shunyi and Wu Shunxi were standing in front of the hall, playing the flute music “Happy Lantern Tower” in conjunction with the flute. Even though he clapped his hands and sighed: The sound of nature is a wonderful combination! Although my grandfather was always so powerful that he was not angry, he was occasionally angry! I remember that it was one night when I was fifteen years old, and my senior brothers still arrived at the music hall one after another. The first ones came were my honest and honest uncle, thirty years older than me, and my “head-hand-string” was pulled and like I was dozing off, as well as my junior brother Wu Shunxi, whom I called “happy fool”. As usual, my brother debugged the flute. Uncle Master prepared his second string, Wu Shunxi took out the coconut beard, and at the same time BabaylanI also adjusted the yangqin, and a string poem “Crown Playing in the Water” began the ensemble. My grandfather was still sitting on the side of his big eight immortal table, playing the suma board while controlling the slow rhythm with his belt. Grandfather often said, “It is difficult to say that although it is not easy to be fast, it is especially difficult to be slow. The difficulty lies in ‘fast but not chaotic, slow but constant’!” After two rounds, grandfather’s drum introduction was closed and the second round was continued. At this moment, my mind was distracted and the transfer was wrong. It’s messy. With a angrily shout, the small drum in my grandfather’s hand flew over to the direction where I was sitting. The little ecstatic Wu Shunxi was so scared that he hugged the coconut beard in his hand and hid far away. And I was so shocked that I held the pair of piano chopsticks in my hand tightly and kept wiping my tears. But my uncle was already very awake at this time. He was standing beside his grandfather, lowering his voice and cautiously, “Sir, don’t be angry, don’t be angry,” and constantly persuading him. Finally, fortunately, my mother, who heard the sound, rushed out, and my grandfather gradually calmed down. Since then, we no longer dare to slack off or be inattentive in our studies! Of course, for those apprentices who are good at taking action or are diligent and studious, their grandfather will also commend them very much. Any specialty cakes and snacks given by friends will be given priority to the sharers, and some will be awarded the honor of accompanying their grandfather to go out to visit friends, especially those who are regarded as the treasure by the musical instruments given by their grandfather!
However, my grandfather was the twelfth disciple of Mr. Huang Xingtai, a master of Chaoshan astrology and geomantics. He was well versed in the academic numbers of star fate, Qimen, geomantics, and auspiciousness. As early as the age of eighteen, my grandfather had studied traditional flute music, and had already dabbled in many ways, including calligraphy, painting, medicine, etc. During this period, he was appreciated by Mr. Chen Bingji, a folk painter in Guiyu, and was taught fine brushwork lacquer paintings and temple paintings. After finishing the class, he was particularly famous for his “door god’s inverted painting” (that is, the door god’s strokes start from the soles of the feet to the crown of the head). At the same time, due to his painting skills, Mr. Huang Xingtai, a master of Chaoshan Astrology and Constellation, was highly valued by Mr. Huang Xingtai, and was admitted as a disciple of the family, teaching meritocratic academic mathematics and astronomy and calendar. After several years of becoming a teacher, the students have been studying hard for their grandfather’s lifelong studies, and they always find the essence and feel happy! Therefore, every day, there are endless people visiting and discussing skills, taking children to learn calligraphy and painting art, or asking questions and answering doubts. In the front hall and backyard of Yangchun Garden Music Hall, all disciples follow the teaching rules, learn skills, and be harmonious with static and dynamic. The disciples in the Music Hall are nearly 60 years old. My grandfather precepts: No high or low learning, no long or short learning, there are orders of knowledge, and specialized skills in skills. A wise man should not “use his or her talents to judge his or her generation” or “use his or her skills to deceive him or her.” When learning art, you must first establish quality, know etiquette and righteousness, and be humble. Be kind to others is the foundation of being a human being, and being harmonious is the way to deal with the world. Only by being united and one’s heart and virtue can one make what one learns profound and profound.

In addition to his studies, he was happy to get married.Good at Cinema, Mr. Yang Guangquan of Shantou Opera School has repeatedly discussed skills with his grandfather, and had a great conversation with him. He worked hard to inherit and develop excellent traditional music culture and always had a consensus on interviewing each other. While passing on his skills, he did not forget to collect and organize the folk information of Chaoyang Di sound set. It started in the 1960s and participated in the Chaoyang Folk Music Research Group and often traveled to and from Chaoyang folk music clubs to collect, organize and edit folk music materials. In the 1980s, Mr. Zheng Zhiwei of Chaole Research Office also visited the music hall for several months. Chaole Research Office scholars Zhuang Lizhu and Lin Shengmin also visited many times. With the support and assistance of their grandfather, they discovered and sorted out folk information. The proofreading and compiling Chaoyang flute musical scores and gongs and drum scores are used for systematic collection and organization. During this period, the music score was compiled by grandfather and rehearsed by his disciples. He participated in the “Shantou Island Summer Concert” performance in 1984. He also participated in the new flute Su gong and drum “Autumn Night in Fishing Island”, which was highly praised by the industry. After watching the Chinese musicians Li Guyi and Jin Tielin, they were amazed at the ancient music of flutes. After the performance, various news media and Chinese meteorological singer Luo Tianchan invited each other to interview and report.
The teacher’s kindness is engraved for generations, and the ancestor’s virtue is for thousands of years! My grandfather’s enthusiasm and dedication to inheriting and promoting traditional music was not disappointed. The scene of teaching and educating people through my whole life is still vivid in my mind! The “Three Treasures of Folk Art in Chaoyang” praised it: “Accumulate virtue and respect goodness, teach art and teach people, is deeply loved by disciples, and can be called a role model for Chinese traditional culture.” Note: Hook, pick, put together, and wipe: fingering method of playing the guqin; “Remembering Old Friends”: famous guqin song; QaBabaylan Gong: surnamed Zheng, name Yonghua, name, and name Qixian.
